John W. Poole, MD, FACS is a seasoned health care executive and surgeon with over 30 years of experience in organized medicine and hospital administration. He has a passion for medical advocacy, and understands the importance of a well-funded AMPAC to advance the mission of the American Medical Association (AMA). Dr. Poole is a true believer in AMPAC’s mission and is proud to be known for his ability to raise funds for AMPAC. He is especially proud that he is often remembered from his usual opening line to any group he is speaking to: “My name is John Poole, and I’m here to ask for money." Dr. Poole excels as a consensus builder, and is extremely grateful for the enduring friendships he has made in organized medicine.
Dr. Poole has an extensive career, having spent 38 years at Holy Name Medical Center as a general surgeon, health care executive, and physician advocate. He also continues to serve the Medical Society of New Jersey and the AMA. Dr. Poole earned his MD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and his BA in Natural Sciences from Johns Hopkins University. He completed a residency in General Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
